About the Author
Kathy Lynn Smith
Southern storyteller. Woman of faith. Military family.
I was born to two very loving parents — the youngest of three girls, with enough of an age gap that most of the time it was just my mama and me. Some of my earliest memories are curled up beside her watching the soaps, and even then, little me had opinions. I'd watch those stories unfold and think, I'd write it differently. That's the day my love of writing was born.
My daddy worked long hours, and I always assumed he was too busy to notice the dreams I was quietly carrying. Then one Christmas morning, I unwrapped a typewriter. He'd known all along. I still get a little teary thinking about it — that gift told me my dreams were worth something before I ever believed it myself.
I am so grateful for a family that never gave up on me, even when I gave up on myself. They kept me going. Every book I write is, in some small way, a thank-you to them.
"That typewriter told me my dreams were worth something before I ever believed it myself."
Faith & Purpose
Writing from the Heart
My faith is the foundation of everything I do — including my writing. I believe stories have the power to heal, to remind us we're not alone, and to point us back to the One who holds it all together. Every book I write carries that hope.
I write for the woman who's been through the fire and come out the other side wondering if love — real, lasting, God-written love — is still possible for her. It is. I promise you, it is.
I write for the woman who needs to know her story isn't over yet.
Military Roots
A Heart for the Brave
The military has shaped my life in ways I'm still discovering. The sacrifice, the strength, the love that holds families together across deployments and distance — it's unlike anything else in this world. I carry deep respect and gratitude for every service member and the families who stand behind them.
That's why military themes run through my fiction. The men and women who serve deserve to see themselves in stories — not just as heroes on a battlefield, but as whole people who love, grieve, heal, and find their way home.
The Writing Journey
From Dream to Page
Getting here wasn't a straight road. There were years of doubt, late nights, and more than a few moments of wondering if I was fooling myself. But I kept writing. I kept praying. And one day, The Broken was real — a book in my hands with my name on the cover.
Now I'm working on When God Writes the Love Story, the novel that's been closest to my heart from the very beginning. I can't wait to share it with you.
